Illustrations for a book about the Holy Year
Este proyecto consistió en la elaboración de una serie de ilustraciones para la Carta Pastoral que se edita con motivo del Año Santo Compostelano 2021 (en seis idiomas: español, gallego, inglés, francés, alemán e italiano).
El Año Santo es un evento de gran importancia en Santiago de Compostela, pues reúne una gran multitud de peregrinos que va pasando por la ciudad a lo largo de todo el año. Con la peculiaridad de que esta festividad se celebra en ciclos irregulares de 11, 6, 5 y 6 años... y este Año Santo 2021 acontece después del ciclo largo de once años; haciendo que la expectación, si cabe, sea mayor.
Como no podía ser de otro modo, el libro se centra en los grandes protagonistas del Año Santo: los peregrinos. Por lo que todas las ilustraciones se enmarcan en el ámbito de la peregrinación.
He realizado un conjunto de ilustraciones digitales de estilo desenfadado, con trazos rápidos que transmiten mucha fuerza. Cada imagen es acompañada por un fondo en acuarela de color amarillo, que enfoca, destaca o enmarca los elementos principales.
A lo largo de las páginas encontramos elementos icónicos del Camino de Santiago: Los peregrinos con sus mochilas, el primer avistamiento de la ciudad, la Catedral, el Botafumeiro, la Puerta Santa...
This project consists in the elaboration of a set of illustrations for the Pastoral Letter published for the Holy Year Compostelan 2021 (in six languages: Spanish, Galician, English, French, German and Italian).
The Holy Year is an event of great importance in Santiago de Compostela, because it attracts a large crowd of pilgrims who pass by the city throughout the year. With the particularity that this festivity happens in irregular cycles of 11, 6, 5 and 6 years... and this Holy Year 2021 comes after the long cycle of eleven years, generating a great expectation.
Of course, the book focuses on the great protagonists of the Holy Year: the pilgrims. For this reason, all the illustrations are included in the scope of the peregrination.
I have made a set of digital illustrations in a casual style, with quick strokes that transmit a lot of strength. Each image is matched with a yellow watercolour background. To focus, highlight or frame the main elements.
Along the pages we find iconic elements of the Santiago Way: The pilgrims with their backpacks, the first sighting of the city, the Cathedral, the Botafumeiro, the Holy Door...
